Terrier Wrestlers Wrap Up Season At NCAA Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo - Three Boston University wrestlers competed in the 2003 NCAA Wrestling Championship on March 20-21, led by senior Ed Strauss (Easton, Pa.), who advanced to the second round at 184. Junior Leighton Brady (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior Jason Holder (Salem, N. H.) both fell into the consolation bracket before losing an elimination bout.
Strauss defeated California State - Bakersfield's Bryan Travers, 19-8, in the first round at 184. In the second round, he fell to Princeton's Greg Parker, the second-seeded wrestler at 184. Parker won by technical fall, 19-4, in 5:26. In the consolation bracket, Strauss fell to Wisconsin's Ralph DeNisco, 6-4.
Brady opened the championship with a 13-6 loss to the top-seeded wrestler at 165, Illinois' Matt Lackey, who won the match 13-6. Brady fell into the consolation, where he lost to North Carolina's Jimmy O'Conner, 6-1.
Holder had a similar fate, dropping his first-round match at 149 to Harvard's Jantzen, who pinned Holder in 1:22. In the consolation bracket, Central Michigan's Ty Morgan eliminated Holder by a score of 3-2.
As a team, the Terriers finished 11-6, and wrestled to a fourth-place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestling Championship.
