Terriers Dismiss Bearcats In America East Opener, 19-1

BOSTON - The Terrier women's lacrosse team opened its 2003 America East campaign with a 19-1 rout of Binghamton University amidst freezing rain at Nickerson Field on Saturday, April 5.
Junior midfielder Kylie Wagenet (Ithaca, NY) tallied a career-high six points off three goals and three assists and sophomore midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT) had two goals and a game-high four assists to lead the Terriers.
B.U. (5-4, 1-0) enjoyed its most proficient shooting performance of the season, netting 19 goals on 25 shots. In addition, 14 of the 19 goals were assisted.
The Terriers raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first eight minutes of game with two goals each from junior midfielder Sasha Lang (Cornish, NH), freshman attacker Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, MD), and Wagenet. Freshman attacker Mary Beth Miller (Berlin, NJ) also had the first of her two goals in the game during the run.
Starting goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) was relieved 8:24 into the game after the Terriers had established the sturdy lead. Sheridan was not contested during her stint. Junior Lauren Beatty (Plainview, NY) relieved Sheridan for the final 51:36 of play, allowing one goal.
B.U. would raise the lead to 12-0 before Allison Lak scored the Bearcats only goal at 11:31 of the first half.
Junior Rachel Olanoff (Rutland, VT) scored off a feed from Caryn Lean (Annapolis, MD) to extend B.U.'s lead to 13-1 before the break.
Freshman defender Kaitlyn Cuneo (Marlton, NJ) had a goal and two assists while freshman attackers Kathryn Dahm (San Francisco, CA) and Danica Strutt (Pheonix, MD) along with Trudel each had a goal and an assist for the Terriers in the second half.
Defensively, the Terriers limited the Bearcats to just two shots and forced 20 turnovers. Cuneo had a game-high three caused turnovers. B.U. also held a 17-5 advantage on draw controls with Trudel collecting a game-high five draws.
For Binghamton (0-4, 0-1), Allison Steinberg recorded one save while allowing 19 goals in 60 minutes.
The Terriers close out their three-game homestand when they host America East foe Albany on Friday, April 11, at 4:00 p.m.
