BOSTON - Boston University senior heavyweight Courtney Howard (Sitka, Alaska) shares this week's Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week honors after helping lead the Terriers to a 23-15 CAA victory over Sacred Heart University on Jan. 8.
Howard shares this week's award with Old Dominion University's Christian Staylor, the conference's top-ranked wrestler at 125.
Howard earned this week's accolade after defeating the defending CAA champion and the conference's top-ranked heavyweight, Sacred Heart's Payam Zarrinpour, 5-2, in his only match of the week. Howard is ranked third in the conference at his position, behind Zarrinpour and Rider's Tyler Rees.
As of Jan. 10, Howard has a 16-5 overall record, while his dual-match record stands at 2-0.
Howard has had a excellent senior season, wrestling to a third-place finish at the Empire Open, a fifth-place finish at the Keystone Classic, and a fourth-place finish at the Nittany Lion Open.
B.U. (1-1, 1-1 CAA) next competes when it travels to Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Jan. 15 to face Brown University. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
Boston University is hosting this year's CAA Wrestling Championship at Case Gymnasium on March 4-5.
