Wrestling Defeats Rutgers, 26-13

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Boston University won four of the first five matches and cruised to a 26-13 victory over Rutgers in wrestling action on Saturday, Jan. 29.
B.U. improves to 6-4 overall, while Rutgers falls to 5-5.
The match began at 174, where the Scarlet Knights' Joe Sacco earned an 11-2 major decision victory over junior Jason Bakanowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Junior Tom Sforza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) got things going for the Terriers with a 5-4 decision over Chris Ressa. It was the first of four straight wins for B.U. Ressa owned a 3-2 lead into the third period, but an escape and late takedown by Sforza sealed the match.
Sophomore John DaCruz (Ludlow, Mass.) put the Terriers ahead for good with a first-period pin of Ken Stiles at 197. A Rutgers forfeit at 285 extended the B.U. lead to 15-4.
Junior Michael Galorenzo (Oradell, N.J.) scored a decision over Rickey Ringel to open the Terrier lead to 14-4. Rutgers' Dan Hilt stopped the Terrier run by posting a 5-2 victory over sophomore Brett Frimer (Marlboro, N.J.) at 133.
Senior Joey Rivera (Stroudsburg, Pa.) took an early lead on Steve Adamcsik and cruised to a 9-0 victory at 141. Classmate Reyes Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) clinched the match for B.U. with an 8-0 decision over Mike Ferrara at 149, putting the Terriers up, 26-7, with two matches remaining.
The Terriers next host Colonial Athletic Association foe Wagner on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. Delaware Valley State will also compete in the double dual competition.
