Terrier Wrestlers Drop 34-16 Decision At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Boston University wrestling team fell at Rider, 34-16, in a Colonial Athletic Association match on Friday, Feb. 18.
Senior Courtney Howard (Sitka, Alaska), junior Zach Johns (Owings Mills, Md.), and senior Warren Haines (Alexandria, Va.) each earned victories for the Terriers.
The Terriers were competing without three of their highest-ranked wrestlers. Seniors Joey Rivera (Stroudsburg, Pa.) at 141 and Rayes Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 149, along with sophomore John DaCruz (Ludlow, Mass.) at 197 were out with various injuries.
B.U. got out to a quick 6-0 lead after Haines earned a medical default victory at 174. Rider collected a major decision and a forfeit win at 184 and 197, respectively, before Howard dominated the Broncos' Nick Cuifo, 20-4, in the heavyweight match to give the Terriers a short-lived 11-10 advantage.
Rider would go on to win the next five matches to take a 34-11 lead before Johns wrapped up the competition with a 5-3 decision at 165.
B.U. (9-6, 5-4 CAA) concludes its regular-season dual-match season when it hosts Harvard at Case Gym on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
