Detwiler Named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week

BOSTON - After claiming the 157-pound title at the Wilkes Open in his collegiate debut, freshman A.J. Detwiler has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Detwiler shared the award with Old Dominion's Kaylen Baxter.
Detwiler won all five of his matches on Dec. 28 en route to the tournament crown in the 157 bracket. After posting a 7-6 victory over Virginia's Kyle Artusio in his first collegiate match, Detwiler followed with pins against Bentley's Andrew Josuweit (0:52) and Wagner's Sean Quinn (4:23).
In the semifinals, Detwiler edged Penn State's Josh Rohler before recording a 7-2 victory over Pitt-Johnstown's Joe Strittmayer in the championsship.
Detwiler and the Terriers will open their dual schedule at home on Friday, Jan. 12, against Sacred Heart. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
