Box Score

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - A rash of turnovers and a second-half scoring drought proved to be insurmountable obstacles for the Boston University men's basketball team (4-11, 1-2 America East) as the Terriers fell, 66-57, to Hartford (8-9, 2-0 AE) on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Chase Arena.

The Terriers committed 23 turnovers, made just 2-of-27 (7.4 pct.) from the 3-point line and went scoreless for 5:16 at the beginning of the final frame. BU's woes from deep were a leading cause for the Terriers' trouble on offense since their 3-point attempts accounted for nearly half of their total field goal attempts.

Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) netted 16 points in the second half en route to a game-high 20 points for BU and an America East Player of the Game honor. Freshman John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) posted his first career double-double of 11 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. Morgan Sabia tallied a team-best 14 points for the Hawks to also earn America East Player of the Game honors.

Turnovers continued to be a problem for the Terriers at the start of the second half as they were for the entire first. BU committed four miscues in the opening minutes after making 13 in the first half. Hartford built a 44-28 lead after a nearly five-and-a-half-minute BU scoring drought. The Terriers managed to cut the Hawks' advantage to single digits several times - getting as close as five points twice in the final minute - but BU could not erase the deficit.

The six minutes of the game were slow offensively for both teams as the teams combined for six points. The Terriers took their first lead at 12:58, 9-6, after a deep Carlos Strong (Portland, Maine) 3-pointer. BU led, 14-13, at 9:33, but the Hawks went on an 8-0 spurt before the Terriers scored two quick baskets and Lowe made a pair of free throws to get BU to 22-20 at 3:40. However, UH went on another 9-2 run to close out the half and take a 31-23 lead into the locker room.

The Terriers out-rebounded the Hawks, 40-33 - the largest margin this season - but managed just eight assists on 21 baskets.

BU returns to action when the Terriers host Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. at The Roof. The game will be broadcast on NESN.
