Wrestling Defeats USMMA; Falls to Army, Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Boston University wrestling team participated in the Rutgers Quad Meet on Sunday, posting a 20-18 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy and falling to both Army (28-15) and the host Scarlet Knights (44-3). The Terriers move to 3-2 on the year.
Sophomore John Hall (197) won all three of his matches on the day, while freshman Hunter Meys (174/184) picked up a pair of victories.
With the Terriers trailing the Mariners, 18-16, heading into the final match, Meys, who was wrestling up a class at 184, came through with a 10-2 major decision to seal the 20-18 victory.
Earlier in the dual with USMMA, BU jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a 14-5 major decision by Hall and a 4-2 victory by senior Jim Connors at 285. Junior Ryan Goddu recorded a fall at 141 and senior Ben Mandelbraut picked up a 5-3 win at 157.
In the match with Army, Hall kicked things off with a 2-1 upset of 13th-ranked Richard Starks. The Black Knights went on to win the next seven matches to take a 28-3. Meys and sophomore Mike Platco each recorded falls, but it was too little, too late in an eventual 28-15 loss.
Hall opened the dual against Rutgers with a 2-0 win over Karim Mahmoud, but the Scarlet Knights came out on top in the remaining nine matches to post the 44-3 victory.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 17) at the CAA Duals in Fairfax, Va.
