Bruce Chalas Appointed Women's Golf Head Coach

BOSTON - Bruce Chalas has been appointed the head coach of the women's golf team at Boston University, bringing over 14 years of coaching experience at Boston area colleges to the program. Most recently he served as the assistant and swing coach at Boston University this past fall.
Chalas is a graduate Babson College, where he received his degree in business administration, marketing and management in 1972. While at Babson he was a member of the varsity golf team all four years, serving as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. In 1993, he was inducted in the schools athletics Hall of Fame.
As a golfer, Chalas qualified for the 1980 United States Open, twice for the NCAA championships, the Bank of Boston PGA Tour event as well as numerous amateur championships. He has won two Southeast Amateur championships as well as the Hornblower and the 1985 New England Amateur tournament.
He returned to Babson is 1984 and served as the varsity golf coach until 1986. From 1990-95 he again served as an assistant coach for the Babson team. Chalas then moved onto MIT where he was the varsity coach from 1999-01, before spending the 2001-02 seasons as the women's golf coach at Boston College.
From 2005 to 2007, Chalas returned as the varsity golf coach at MIT, handling all aspects of the program, from recruiting to organization as well as hosting the 2006 ECAC Division III championships.
In 2008, he has served as an instructor at the Fresh Pond Golf Club in Cambridge, Mass. His specialty in teaching is with swing technique, mental skills, and course management to high school, prep school and college golfers. He also is a member of the National Golf Coaches Association and a former member of the U.S.G.A. Mid-Amateur Committee for eight years.
