NCAA Brackets
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Three wrestlers will represent Boston University at the 2009 NCAA Championships, to be held March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center. Senior Mike Roberts (149) is making his third straight appearance at the national tournament, while sophomore John Hall (197) and freshman Hunter Meys (174) will make their NCAA debuts. This is the first time since 2005 that the Terriers have three NCAA qualifiers.
Roberts, who is 1-4 all-time at the NCAA Championships, will open competition in the 149-pound bracket against 11th-seeded Steven Brown of Central Michigan. The winner of that match-up will take on either sixth-seeded Jake Patacsil (Purdue) or Kellon Balum (Virginia). Roberts is 31-10 on the year and he earned his 100th career victory last month.
One of just four true freshmen in the 174-pound bracket, Meys will face Trevor Perry of Indiana in the first NCAA bout of his career. The other two wrestlers on the other end of the pod are No. 4-seed Jay Borschel (Iowa) and Shane Onufer (Wyoming). Meys enters the tournament with a record of 29-10.
At 197, Hall's first-round opponent is Luke Feist of Stanford. Hall is 25-10 on the year and his potential second-round opponents are third-seeded Brent Chriswell of Boise State and Patrick Bond of Illinois.
