CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Senior Mike Roberts (149), junior C.J. Inglin (165) and freshman Hunter Meys (174) all placed in the top four of their respective brackets, as the Boston University wrestling team closed out competition at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at Oscar Smith High School. As a team, the Terriers placed seventh with 26.5 points.
Roberts placed second, while Inglin and Meys each placed fourth. Meys qualified for the NCAA Championships thanks to the CAA's four allocated spots at 174. Roberts and sophomore John Hall (197) still have a chance to claim one of the 52 remaining at-large qualifying spots for the NCAAs.
In the 149-pound final, Roberts dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Hofstra's Paul Gillespie in the second tiebreaker. Roberts came back to earn a 6-1 sudden-victory decision over Old Dominion's Joey Metzler in the true-second match.
Meys came up short in a 2-0 decision against Eric Decker (Old Dominion) in the 174 third-place match, while Inglin fell, 8-4, to Jason Lapham of Rider in the third-place bout at 165. Sophomore John Hall (197) came up short in a 9-7 decision at 197 in the consolation semifinals.
Hofstra won the conference title for the eighth consecutive year with 106.5 points, while Old Dominion (86.5) and Rider (57.5) rounded out the top three.
