Terriers Send 10 Wrestlers to Nittany Lion Open

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Paced by a sixth-place finish by sophomore Nestor Taffur at 149, the Boston University wrestling team had 10 grapplers compete in the Nittany Lion Open on Sunday at Penn State.
Taffur won five of his seven matches on the day, beginning with a pair of one-point wins before an opening-minute pin against North Carolina's Jonathan Burns to advance to the quarterfinals.
After dropping a hard-fought 5-3 decision in the quarterfinals to Virginia Tech's Cameron Hurd, Taffur earned a pair of wins, including his second pin of the day, in the consolation bracket to advance to the fifth-place match, where Burns avenged their previous bout with a 12-4 major decision.
Sophomore Hunter Meys was the only other Terrier to advance to the quarterfinals, as he recorded a pair of falls in the 174 bracket before falling to Penn State's Edward Ruth.
Freshmen Nick Tourville (157), Alex Najjar (197) and Kevin Innis (285) and senior Brock Mantella (184) all earned two victories on the day.
BU will take a three-week break from its schedule before returning to action on Dec. 29-30 at the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C.
