Wrestling Defeats AIC, Falls to Rider in Final Duals

BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday, posting a 35-9 victory over American International after falling to Rider, 32-10, on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym. The Terriers complete their dual schedule with a record of 4-14-1 and will now set their focus on the CAA Championships on March 5-6 at Rider.
Senior Abbie Rush, wrestling at home for the final time in his career, and freshman Nestor Taffur won both of their matches on the day at 141 and 149, respectively.
Thanks to a pair of forfeits on the BU side, Rider jumped out to a 28-0 lead through six matches before the Terriers recorded wins in three of the final four bouts to make it a 32-10 final.
Sophomore Fred Santaite posted a 13-4 major decision over Ilyass Elmsaouri at 125 before Rush and Taffur each pulled off narrow wins.
Against AIC, BU won the first three contested matches, beginning with senior C.J. Inglin's 7-2 victory over Martin Thompson at 165 after Matt Morgenstern won by forfeit at 157. Freshman Kyle Czarnecki followed with a pin just 2:25 into his match against Terrell Belcher at 174.
After the teams traded forfeits at 184 and 197, AIC's Travis Koch earned a 6-1 win over BU's Carmen Rondash at 285 before the Terriers won the final four matches.
Sophomore Ryan Down earned an 11-1 major decision at 125 against Josh Rollins before senior Ryan Buff capped his final home match with an identical 11-1 major decision versus Brian Clay.
Rush and Taffur capped their strong day with 6-3 and 7-1 decisions at 141 and 149, respectively, to help BU post the 35-9 victory.
