BOSTON - Set to the become the first Boston University men's basketball player to ever lead the America East in scoring, junior John Holland has received All-District honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), the two organizations announced on their respective websites.
The NABC's District I is comprised of teams from the America East and MAAC. Holland was named one of the top five players from the two conferences, joining three men from Siena and Vermont's Marqus Blakely.
The USBWA's districts are regionally based, and Holland was one of 10 players from the New England area placed on the All-District I team.
Last Saturday against the Catamounts, Holland became the fourth BU player to eclipse 600 points in a season. Already ranking seventh all-time in the program for scoring with 1,493 points and steals with 146, Holland has 511 rebounds and is just seven minutes away from setting the school record for minutes played in a season.
A 2008 AE Rookie of the Year and two-time First Team All-Conference honoree, Holland earlier this season tallied a personal-best 43 points against Delaware, the most since BU Hall of Famer Tunji Awojobi ('97) had the same amount in 1996.
Holland ranks in the top 10 for nine different league categories and will try to add onto his season and career totals later tonight against Oregon State in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.
