Brock Mantella Named Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior Brock Mantella has been named this week's GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week after placing eighth in the 184-pound bracket at the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 29-30. He posted a 6-3 record at one of the nation's top tournaments.
BU was set to send a full contingent of wrestlers to the tournament, but the post-Christmas snowstorm caused the cancellation of flights, preventing the squad from making the trip. Mantella drove up to Greensboro, N.C., on his own from his home in Georgia and went on make an impressive run in his bracket.
After opening with a 5-2 win over Andrew Church of Penn State, Mantella was the victim of a late pin. He responded by reeling off five consecutive victories in the wrestlebacks, including a 6-3 upset of No. 18 Nate Graham of Bloomsburg. In the seventh-place match, Mantella was dropped a tight 3-2 decision against Kent State's Casey Newburg.
