CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After helping the Boston University men's swimming & diving team earn a split against Fordham and No. 18 Texas A&M, sophomore Jeff Thomas has been named the America East Swimmer of the Week, while classmate Jared Scheck repeated as the top diver.
A native of Foxboro, Mass., Thomas led BU with a victory against the top swimmers from both schools in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:52.58, more than half a second faster than the Aggies. He also recorded the second-fastest time in the 500 free at 4:39.13, less than two seconds behind Texas A&M.
In diving, Scheck (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted the Terriers' top score in the 1-meter at 267.55 to earn fourth place, just 1.66 points behind the Aggies' third-best diver and 88 points ahead of Fordham. The score was 34 points better than his performance from the week before. He also took fifth in the 3-meter at 261.00.
Thomas and the rest of the swimmers will host the Terrier Invitational on Nov. 18-20, while Scheck will travel with the divers to the Rutgers Invitational (Nov. 17-19).
