BOSTON - The Boston University men's swimming & diving team swept Maine and Stony Brook at the Competition Pool on Saturday afternoon, winning 12 events during the meet. The Terriers defeated Maine, 207-87, and beat Stony Brook, 191-103.
The event started well for BU as the Terriers took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.09. Sophomore Knox Anderson took the next event for BU as well, with a time of 9:55.84 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The Terriers boasted the top three swimmers in the 100 back, with sophomore Nik Astashinsky (53.56) leading the way. Behind him were senior Jackson Hill (54.44) and freshman Alec Pokornowski (55.06). Porkornowski had more individual success later in the meet, as he also finished first in the 500 free (4:42.39).
Sophomore Andrew Guinther claimed first place in the 100 breast (59.39), while freshman Brandon Funk took first in the 200 fly (1:54.70). Senior Justin Gilmartin (21.08) and freshman Cole Puchi (21.38) finished one-two in the 50 free before flipping positions in the 200 back.
Senior Daniel Kempf was best in the 100 free, finishing first with a time of 46.68.
BU divers also had success, as sophomore Jared Scheck won the 1-meter dive, with junior Jake Frankenfield finishing behind him in second. The pair finished second and third, respectively, in the 3-meter dive.
Sophomore Jeff Thomas led the Terriers in the 100 fly with a time of 51.55. Funk (51.94) and freshman Ryan Bach (52.26) finished right behind Thomas. In the 200 breast, freshman Brian Bonack (2:11.82) and Guinther (2:12.07) were the top two finishers.
Next up for BU is a home date with Texas A&M and Fordham at the Competition Pool. That meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m.
