BOSTON -
Head wrestling coach Carl Adams has announced that Sean Gray has been promoted to associate head coach of the program.
Gray is in his seventh season as an assistant on Adams' staff and has helped the Terriers move forward in developing and recruiting top wrestlers. BU has had seven NCAA qualifiers during Gray's tenure, including three in 2009.
"Sean Gray has been an invaluable asset to the wrestling program here at Boston University," said Adams, who is in his 30th season as head coach of the Terriers. "He has a great passion for the sport and has worked extremely hard to help build BU wrestling into one of the most attractive programs on the east coast. I look forward to sharing the responsibilities of head coach with Sean and know that he will continue to work hard in helping our wrestlers become the best that they can be."
Most recently, Gray has played a critical role in the recruitment and development of Fred Santaite, who finished one match shy of All-America status in 2010 and knocked off the defending national champion in the national quarterfinals.
"I am humbled, honored and excited about the promotion to associate head wrestling coach," said Gray. "I would like to thank Carl Adams and our administration for their exceptional mentorship and leadership. I look forward to working hard in continuing the tradition of excellence that is BU wrestling in relation to academics, athletics and community. These have been the best times in Boston University athletics, and I am tremendously ecstatic and appreciative to play a part in elevating our success."
Gray and the Terriers enter the final month of the regular season on a five-match winning streak and will look to qualify multiple wrestlers for the NCAA Championships in March.
