Three Boston University wrestlers will take on the nation's best beginning on Thursday (March 17), as juniors John Hall and Fred Santaite and sophomore Hunter Meys compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
All three Terriers will be making their second appearance at the NCAAs, as Santaite advanced to the 2010 quarterfinals and Hall and Meys are back after a two-year absence following injury redshirt seasons last year.
The first two rounds of the tournament on Thursday can be viewed at ESPN3.com, while Friday's quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast on ESPNU. The championship round on Saturday night will be televised live by ESPN. InterMat will provide live results throughout the three-day event.
Santaite was the talk of the tournament one day in last year after pulling off two upsets, including a win over defending national champion Troy Nickerson of Cornell.
Hall and Meys are both in search of their first NCAA victories after going winless at the 2009 tournament.
Santaite (20-5), who competed at 125 pounds last year, is now up a class to 133. He'll face Justin Paulsen of Stanford in Thursday's opening round. He qualified for the tournament following a third-place finish at the CAA Championships.
Meys (24-7) will be challenged when he takes to the mat on Thursday, as the 174-pounder will face third-seeded Mack Lewnes of Cornell, who was the national runner-up a year ago. At the CAAs, Meys finished second place in a tough 174 bracket.
Hall (19-3) became just the third Terrier to earn a CAA individual title when he cruised through the 197-pound bracket two weeks ago. He'll bring a 16-match win streak into his opening-round bout against Chad Hanke of Oregon State.
