Wrestling Earns Victories over American International, Sacred Heart

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Boston University wrestling team stretched its dual win streak to eight on Saturday afternoon, earning victories over American International and Sacred Heart at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
The Terriers, who are now 8-1 on the season, opened the day with a 29-15 victory over the host Yellow Jackets before closing out with a 32-18 win against the Pioneers.
Senior Fred Santaite (133), sophomores Kevin Innis (285) and Nick Tourville and freshman Mitchell Wightman (165) each earned two victories on the day.
BU posted the decisive victories despite forfeiting the 184 and 197 matches in both duals. The Terriers were victorious in 13 of the 16 contested matches.
Santaite and Innis pinned both of their opponents and senior Ryan Dowd (125) and sophomore B.J. Suitor (133) added pins in their lone matches of the day against Sacred Heart.
Sophomore Bubba McGinley (125) and junior Kyle Czarnecki (174) added bonus wins against American International with major decisions. Wightman recorded an impressive 16-0 technical fall in his bout against Sacred Heart's Sam Sheppard. Freshman Tyler Scotton pulled off a hard-fought 10-9 win against Aaron Smith of AIC at 141.
The Terriers will look to continue their win streak next Saturday (Jan. 21) at the CAA Duals in Fairfax, Va. BU will face host George Mason in addition to Old Dominion, Binghamton and Hofstra.
