
BU Swimming Completes Day Two of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - The Boston University men’s and women’s swimming teams completed day two of the Terrier Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Competition Pool.
The BU women took third in the first final of the night, the 200 medley relay. The quartet of junior Kendra Cheng, sophomores Katie Kenney, Courtney Grace and freshman Tess Harpur placed third with a time of 1:47.91.
The BU men followed with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with the sophomore team of Connor Stuewe, Mario Caballero, Ryan Bach and Cole Puchi finishing in 1:31.68.
A duo of Terriers finished in the top three in the women’s 400 IM, as freshman Mika Spencer took second in 4:24.51 while senior Katie Radin was right behind her for third place in 4:25.62. The BU men followed suit with a pair of swimmers finishing in the top three in the men’s 400 IM. Freshman Mun Hon Lee placed second in 4:00.32 while Caballero finished in third in 4:01.01.
Kenney and freshman Celia Spencer paced the BU women in the 100 butterfly with Kenney placing third (57.26) and Simpson claiming fifth (58.39). The men experienced success in the 100 butterfly as well, with junior Jeff Thomas winning the race with a time of 50.03. Sophomore Brandon Funk placed fourth in 50.86.
Cheng was the top finisher for the women in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.05 to place sixth while Stuewe paced the men with a third-place finish in 1:41.35. In the men’s 100 breaststroke, BU placed third and fourth with Caballero (56.65) and Thomas (57.66), respectively.
The Terriers were again led by Cheng in the women’s 100 backstroke, as the junior took third in 57.45 while Radin placed sixth in 59.33. Stuewe then had his best race of the night, claiming the victory in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 49.41. Sophomores Nik Astashinsky (52.03), Puchi (52.52) and Bach (52.73), finished 4-5-6, respectively.
The BU women placed fourth in the final race of the night, the 800 freestyle relay, with the team of Spencer, Cheng, Kenney and Alexsa Savage finishing in 7:43.22.
The BU men closed out the night with a victory in the 800 freestyle relay with Andy Vazquez, Puchi, Thomas and Stuewe winning in 6:45.48.
BU concludes the three-day Terrier Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Competition Pool. Preliminary races are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the finals taking place at 5 p.m.
