UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt junior Nestor Taffur placed seventh at 157 pounds on Sunday at the 2012 Nittany Lion Open as Boston University sent 10 wrestlers to the one-day tournament.

Taffur continued his stellar tournament season with four wins to place seventh in the 58-man bracket at 157. Freshman Colin Saunders earned three wins at 149 and sophomore Tyler Scotton pick up a pair of victories at 141.

After opening with a technical fall over Virginia's David Wesley, Taffur earned an 8-4 victory over Buffalo's Wally Maziarz. A tough 5-4 loss in the quarterfinals to Brian Realbuto forced Taffur to the wrestlebacks, where he earned an 11-3 major decision over Central Michigan's Dakota Cooley before falling, 5-2, to Penn State's James Vollrath to earn a spot in the seventh-place match. He closed the day with a pin 1:59 into a rematch with Maziarz to secure seventh.

Saunders was impressive at 149 with three victories, including a pin against West Virginia's Tre-Miller Scott. He opened with wins over Gabe LaVey (NC State) and Jordan Dix (The Citadel) before his first loss came by fall against sixth-ranked Andrew Alton of Penn State.

At 141, Scotton opened with an 11-7 victory over Michael Avelar of NC State before being edged, 7-5, in a tiebreaker versus Undrakhbayar Khishignyam of The Citadel. He rebounded with 6-4 decision against Ben Matthissen of Central Michigan but had his day come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Tyler Hunt of NC State.

Senior Kyle Czarnecki (174), junior Kevin Innis (285) and junior Eric Des Lauriers (165) each earned one victory on the day.

The Terriers have now completed tournament competition until they host the CAA Championships on March 9. BU will open the dual portion of their schedule on Saturday (Dec. 8) with home matches against Bridgewater State and Franklin & Marshall.
