BOSTON - After day one of competition at the America East Championship, the Boston University women’s swimming and diving team is tied for first place while the men’s team ranks fourth. The four-day event is being held at BU’s Competition Pool.
The women are tied for the top spot with UMBC, as both teams collected 74 points from the day’s two events. The Terriers claimed first in the 800 freestyle relay, as the quartet of Kendra Cheng, Alexsa Savage, Katie Kenney and Amanda Schmitz finished in 7:23.45, edging the UMBC team by over three seconds.
The BU women returned to the pool for the 200 medley relay and finished second with the team of Cheng, Kristen Connors, Liz Floyd and Lauren Drake clocking in at 1:44.19.
The BU men earned 62 points after the first day of the action. Sophomore Jared Scheck posted a third place finish in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 248.85.
In the next men’s event, the Terriers set a new pool record in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:36.92. Cole Puchi, Andy Vazquez, Connor Stuewe and Jeff Thomas combined for the winning effort.
The Terriers return to the pool for day two of the competition tomorrow at 10 a.m.
