CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston University men’s swimming and diving team posted 11 first place finishes as the Terriers defeated Boston College, 169-128, Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass. BU concludes the regular season with a 6-2-1 (3-0 AE) record.
The Terriers began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with the team of Justin Gilmartin, Andrew Guinther, Daniel Kempf and Cole Puchi combining for a time of 1:35.26.
Jeff Thomas then picked up his first of three individual victories with a win in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.31. Thomas also captured first in the 200 butterfly (1:55.77) and the 500 freestyle (4:39.71).
BU won the fourth and fifth events, as Connor Stuewe claimed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.64 and Guinther returned to the pool to take first in the 100 breaststroke (59.44). Guinther would also go on to win the 200 breaststroke (2:11.79).
The Terriers placed 1-3 in the 50 freestyle, as Gilmartin led the way in 21.58. Kempf placed second in 21.66 and Puchi followed for third in 21.92. Kempf and Puchi later returned to go 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, as Kempf took first (47.55) and Puchi placed second (48.08).
Nik Astashinsky picked up a win in the 200 backstroke by touching the wall in 1:55.55 while Gilmartin followed for second in 1:56.72. Alec Pokornoski also earned a victory by winning the 400 IM in 4:10.81.
Jake Frankenfield was the top performer for the Terriers in the diving events, placing third on the 1-meter board (217.12) and third on the 3-meter board (191.17).
The Terriers have concluded the regular season and have almost three weeks to prepare for the America East Championships, which will take place Feb. 23-26 at the Competition Pool.
