ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Kevin Innis had his standout sophomore season come to an end Friday on day two of the NCAA Wrestling Championships, as the heavyweight dropped a 5-1 decision to Arizona State's Levi Cooper in the wrestlebacks.
Innis wasn't able to recover after Cooper - the Pac-12 runner-up - earned a takedown a minute into the match. On Thursday, Innis opened the tournament with a 5-3 overtime win over Pitt's P.J. Tasser before dropping a 17-2 technical fall to Oregon State's Clayton Jack, who topped Cooper in the Pac-12 finals.
Junior Kyle Czarnecki (174) and Innis made their NCAA debuts at this year's tournament as BU had five wrestlers in its lineup this season that either qualified for NCAAs this year or earned past NCAA berths.
Innis finished his season with a record of 22-7 while Czarnecki ended with a record of 23-13 to lead the squad in wins.
