Terrier Athletics is proud to congratulate the women's golf team on winning the inaugural Varsity Alumni Challenge and the $10,000 prize for earning the department's highest participation rate. Women's tennis, women's lacrosse, men's rowing and men's ice hockey also finished in the top five of the final challenge standings.
Every team benefited from the challenge with alumni and current student-athletes supporting their teams in record numbers. As of April 6, the athletic department reports that each team has already surpassed its participation rate from last season. The challenge results show that the athletic department increased the number of donors by 142% and increased the department-wide participation rate by more than 13 percentage points as compared to the end of last fiscal year (June 30, 2011).
"I expect that years from now we will look back at this challenge as a pivotal moment in our growing tradition of generous alumni support," said Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch. "Our friends groups are an important part of providing our student-athletes with a quality experience. On behalf of all our student-athletes and coaches, I would like to recognize and thank everyone who made a gift and encouraged their teammates to participate in this competition. Your support will directly impact your team and our student-athletes."
