HANOVER, N.H. - Paced by Kristyna Pavlickova's second-place performance, the Boston University golf team finished second at the Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend at the Hanover Country Club.
The Terriers were just two shots back of eventual champion Yale after Saturday's first round, as they were one stroke off the school-record low of 304. However, Yale (598) pulled away in Sunday's final round as BU turned in a total score of 613 on the weekend. The Terriers were six shots clear of third-place Brown.
Pavlickova, who won the Bucknell Invitational the previous weekend, had a two-day total of 145 (72-73) to finish two shots off the pace. The sophomore sensation knocked in a wedge for an eagle on the final hole on Sunday to vault into second place. Sophomore Flor Canedo (78-76) and freshman Emily Tillo (79-75) each tied for 10th with a total of 154. That marks the first time in program history that three Terriers finished in the top 10 of an event.
Freshman Maddy Silverman finished the weekend with a 163 (76-87) and sophomore Christina Patracuolla turned in a total of 165 (81-84). Four Terriers broke 80 on Saturday, which marked the first time in program history that feat was accomplished.
Keys to success for BU included consistency from the tee and hitting greens in regulation. In particular, head coach Bruce Chalas was pleased with his squad's ability to hit par-3 greens. The team is on pace for a record year, as the Terriers are averaging a total of 308 so far this semester. The previous best for a semester was an average of 338.
BU made 23 birdies on Saturday and dropped in 13 more on Sunday to finish with 36 on the weekend. Combined with the 21 birdies from the Bucknell Invitational, the Terriers have sunk 57 birdies this season, just two behind last season's mark of 59. Alumni, family and friends are invited to pledge a gift for every birdie the Terriers sink this season as part of the "Terrier Birdies Challenge" this fall.
Several alumni made the trek to Dartmouth to cheer on the Terriers, including Ana Johnson and Courtney Dampolo. The team appreciated the support from former teammates, friends and family throughout the weekend.
Following a weekend off, the Terriers will be back on the course for the ECAC Championship, held Sept. 28-29 in Egg Harbour, N.J.
