Wrestling Falls to Duke, 30-13

DURHAM, N.C. - The Boston University wrestling team fell at Duke, 30-13, on Saturday afternoon at Card Gymnasium. Four Terriers earned wins for the Terriers, who move to 5-4 on the year. The Blue Devils were propelled by four pins and improved to 4-5.

Sophomore Mitchell Wightman was BU's top performer on the day with an 11-3 major decision at 165 against Randy Roden. Redshirt junior Nestor Taffur earned his team-leading 23rd win of the year in a 7-4 decision versus Immanual Kerr-Brown at 157.

The match started at 174 and Duke raced out to a 15-0 lead, including pins in the first two bouts, before junior Kevin Innis got the Terriers on the board with a 7-4 decision at 285 against Brian Self.

Junior Bubba McGinley (125) cut the deficit to 15-6 when he earned a hard-fought 5-3 victory in match with Peter Terrezza.

The Blue Devils responded with three straight wins, including two more pins, to take a 30-6 advantage before Taffur and Wightman closed out the dual with their victories.

The Terriers will return to action on Sunday (Jan. 27) when they visit Davidson for duals against the Wildcats and VMI. Action on the mats starts at 1 p.m.
