CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman Austin Dickey of the Boston University men’s swimming and diving team was named Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the League office on Monday afternoon.
Dickey and the Terriers earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon when BU downed Massachusetts, 186-105 at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool in Amherst, Mass.
The Gaithersburg, Md., native accounted for two of BU’s 10 individual event victories while also swimming a leg on one of the Terriers’ winning relay teams.
Dickey recorded the fastest time ever in the 100 breaststroke in the history of Massachusetts’ pool when he won the event with a time of 55.62. He was just 0.48 seconds away from the BU program record of 55.14 which was set by Kyle Ernst in 2011.
The freshman also clocked in first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.97 and teamed up with juniors Connor Stuewe and Ryan Bach along with classmate Brian Habacivch to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.21.
Last month, Dickey was named to USA Swimming’s National Junior Team for his performance in the 100 meter breaststroke. At the time, he owned the third fastest time in the country (1:02.02) for an 18 and under swimmer in the event.
Dickey and the Terriers return to action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when BU is set to compete in an exhibition meet against Brown and Rhode Island in Providence, R.I. The competition is set to begin at 11 a.m.
