Swimming Concludes Day Two of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - After two days of the Terrier Invitational, the Boston University men's swimming team sits in second place while the women's swimming team is in third. The three-day meet concludes on Sunday (Nov. 24) at the Competition Pool.
The BU women placed sixth in the first final of the night, the 200 medley relay. Juniors Courtney Grace, Katie Kenney, Alexsa Savage and sophomore Karla Ferrara finished in 1:48.07. The group of senior Kendra Cheng, junior Avery Visser, sophomore Tess Harpur and freshman Christy Wilde were just behind them for seventh place in 1:48.13.
Sophomore Mika Spencer next placed sixth in the 400 IM (4:29.60) followed by freshman Danielle Yoon in seventh (4:30.75). Visser posted the top time for BU in the next event, the 100 butterfly, with a time of 57.56 for 10th place.
Cheng returned to the pool for a fifth-place showing in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:52.47. Sophomore Stephanie Nasson took ninth in 1:53.66. In the next race, the 100 breaststroke, Ferrara finished in 10th place (1:06.65) to earn points for BU.
The Terriers earned points from Cheng (57.38) and Grace (58.70) in the 100 backstroke, earning third and eighth place, respectively.
BU placed second in the final event of the night, the 800 freestyle relay. Spencer, Cheng, Nasson and sophomore Celia Simpson finished with a time of 7:37.55.
On the men's side, the Terriers started off day two with a second-place showing in the 200 medley relay. Senior Jeff Thomas, juniors Mario Caballero and Andy Vazquez, along with sophomore Mun Hon Lee finished in 1:32.13. BU's second team of seniors Nik Astashinsky, Curtis Hon, junior Lincoln Kupke and freshman Brian Habacivch took fourth in 1:34.60.
Astashinky took second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.29 while classmate Knox Anderson placed fourth (4:05.29). Sophomore Tanner Cridland (4:05.51) and junior Alec Pokornowski (4:06.32) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Thomas led BU in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50:48 while junior Ryan Bach took ninth (50.58). Vazquez then placed second in the 200 freestyle by clocking in at 1:40.76.
Freshman Austin Dickey placed second in the 100 breaststroke (55.96) while Caballero took fourth (56.78) and Thomas claimed eighth (57.78).
In the 100 backstroke, the Terriers claimed first through fourth and were led by junior Connor Stuewe (49.97). Lee took second (51.42), Bach earned third (51.69) and Astashinsky was fourth (51.71).
BU closed out the day with a win in the 800 freestyle. Junior Cole Puchi, Thomas, Stuewe and Vazquez clocked in at 6:44.70. The Terriers also had a team place third, with Caballero, Astashinsky, Pokornowski and junior Rodrigo Gonzalez clocking in at 6:54.41.
The third and final day of the Terrier Invitational commences at 10 a.m. on Sunday with the preliminary races at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 5 p.m.
