NEW YORK - The Boston University wrestling team closed out a Terrier-filled weekend at Madison Square Garden on Sunday with a pair of duals against fellow EIWA teams at the Grapple at the Garden. BU fell to Penn, 25-9, before losing to Hofstra by a score of 35-6.
Seniors Nestor Taffur (157) and Kevin Innis (285) each won both their bouts and junior Tyler Scotton (141) picked up a win in the Penn match.
In the opener, Penn took the first two bouts before Scotton got the Terriers on the board with a 5-3 victory over Jeff Canfora at 141.
Taffur, ranked 13th in the country, cut the Quakers' lead to 9-6 midway through the match after recording a 3-2 win at 157 against Ray Bethea, avenge his lone loss of the season in the process.
Penn took control of the match with four straight wins before Innis closed out the dual with a 3-1 triumph in sudden victory against Steven Graziano at 285.
BU fell into an early hole against Hofstra, as the Pride won the first four bouts beginning with back-to-back pins. Taffur broke the run with his second win of the day, notching a 4-2 decision against Nick Terdick to improve to 13-1 on the year.
Innis made sure the Terriers ended the day on a winning note, registering a 3-1 victory over Michael Hughes.
BU will return to action on Friday (Dec. 6) when it hosts three-time defending national champion and top-ranked Penn State for a 7 p.m. dual at Case Gym. To purchase tickets, click here.
