PRINCETON, N.J. - The Boston University wrestling team closed out its dual season on a high note Sunday, posting a 20-19 victory at Princeton to finish the year with a record of 9-9.
Five Terriers were victorious on the afternoon, giving the Terriers a 20-13 lead through nine matches before forfeiting the 174-pound match.
The Tigers held a 13-12 lead before redshirt junior Nestor Taffur ans sophomore Mitchell Wightman earned back-to-back major decisions at 157 and 165 to seal the victory.
The match opened at 184 with an 8-2 win by Princeton's Scott Gibbons over sophomore Andrew Maksimovic, but the Terriers quickly rebounded with wins from senior Hunter Meys (197) and junior Kevin Innis (285).
Meys, who was returning from an injury, pinned Daniel Santoro with 25 seconds remaining in the first period of their bout. Innis followed with his 11th straight win - a 5-3 triumph over Cole Lampman.
Junior Bubba McGinley (125) fell victim to a late rally by Princeton's Max Rogers in a 7-5 loss at 125. Freshman Dane Harlowe continued his late-season surge with a 6-2 win over Andrew Hiral at 133 to give BU a 12-6 lead.
Princeton got back into the match when Kevin Moylan earned a 9-1 major decision over Tyler Scotton at 141. The Tigers took their late 13-12 lead when Zachary Bintliff topped junior Nick Tourville, 5-2, at 149.
Taffur earned his team-leading 31st win of the year with a 16-6 major decision over Kyle Roddy at 157 before Wightman sealed BU's victory with his 13-3 major against Judson Ziegler.
The Terriers will now set their focus on the 2013 CAA Championships, which they will host on Saturday, March 9.
