After helping the Boston University wrestling team capture two individual CAA titles in the same year for the first time in program history, juniors Kevin Innis (285) and Nestor Taffur (157) have been named GoTerriers.com Student-Athletes of the Week.
The Terriers entered Saturday's CAA Championship having won a combined three titles since first participating in 2002.
Vastly undersized compared to the other heavyweights, Innis claimed his second career NCAA bid and first league title by beating Hofstra's Zeal McGrew (7-2), Old Dominion's Matt Tourdot (3-1) and George Mason's Jacob Kettler (7-3).
Missing out on last year due to injury, Taffur defeated Drexel's Austin Sommer, 14-11, in extra time. He followed with a 6-3 victory over George Mason's Jaaziah Bethea and then prevented Rider's Zachary Cibula from escaping after a takedown for a thrilling 5-4 last-second victory to clinch his first career title and bid to the NCAA tournament.
Innis is a health science major in Sargent College while Taffur is majoring in management studies.
