BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team (2-6, 1-5 EIWA) will compete in a pair of duals on Saturday (Jan. 24), hosting Rider (10-5, 4-1 EWL) at 1 p.m. at the FitRec Center before heading over to Harvard (2-4, 1-4 EIWA) in the annual Charles Cup dual at 7:30 p.m.
Last season, BU snapped a 10-match losing streak against Rider with a 21-15 road win against the Broncs. That victory was the 300th of head coach Carl Adams' career at BU.
Rider head coach Gary Taylor became just the sixth coach in NCAA wrestling history to amass 400 dual victories when the Broncs topped Bloomsburg, 20-16, last Friday. Taylor ranks second among active coaches in career wins and Adams is fourth with 325.
After the Terriers won the first three battles for the Charles Cup, Harvard claimed the trophy last year for the first time with a 31-6 victory at BU.
The first NCAA Division I Coaches Panel Rankings came out on Thursday and BU was represented by a pair of wrestlers. Senior Nestor Taffur came in at No. 6 in the 157-pound rankings and junior Mitchell Wightman was tied for 33rd at 165.
Taffur is 25-2 on the season and is tied with Army's Chandler Smith and Hofstra's Joe Booth for the most wins of any EIWA wrestler this season. He has won 16 of his past 17 bouts and Wightman is 6-1 since the turn of the new year.
Rider has six wrestlers in the initial NCAA rankings: Richard Deutsch (14th, 125), Chuck Ziesloft (27th, 133), Curt Delia (29th, 149), Ramon Santiagio (29th, 165), Connor Brennan (26th, 174), Clint Morrison (25th, 184). Harvard's lone wrestler in the rankings is Todd Preston, who is 28th at 141.
