BOSTON - The Boston University men's swimming and diving team earned its third victory of the season against UMass on Saturday afternoon, beating the Minutemen by a score of 187-113 at home in the BU Competition Pool.
Eight Terriers posted their season-best marks in 10 events against UMass including two personal bests from Alec Pokornowski and Quinn Smith.
The Terriers excelled in the breaststroke and butterfly against the Minutemen, taking first place in all four of those events. Mario Caballero won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, posting the team's best time of the season in the 200, finishing in 2:07.59.
BU swept the top-three in three events, the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Cole Puchi swam to a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle followed by Smith, who posted his fastest time of the season in the event. Edwin Angjeli and Ryan Bach finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 butterfly, both with their best times of the season.
Adam Gross was dominant in the diving pool, winning the 3-meter diving competition with a season-high score of 279.60. He also finished in second place in the 1-meter.
The meet came down to the final two races, the 400 IM and 200 freestyle medley, both of which BU won. Garrett Chin finished first in the 400 IM while two teams of Terriers took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle medley to beat the Minutemen.
The Terriers are back in action on Nov. 8 when they travel to Fordham for a 1 p.m. meet.
