
Terriers Place Third at Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Boston University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each placed third at the Terriers' first Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day competition began Wednesday and concluded on Saturday night at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
Navy swept the championships for the third straight season with the Mids earning 945.5 points on the men's side and 778 on the women's side. Army captured second place in the men's competition with 640.5 points while the BU men accumulated 609 points for third place. Bucknell placed second in the women's competition with 580 points while the Terrier women posted 533.5 points.
Sophomore Stephanie Nasson was honored as the Women's Swimmer of the Meet after posting a pair of first-place finishes in the 500 and 1650 freestyles while capturing second in the 200 freestyle.
Nasson highlighted the final day of competition for BU by earning her second win of the meet while setting a Patriot League, meet and school record with a time of 16:20.32 in the 1650 freestyle.
Freshman Sarah Hargrave also clocked in under the previous PL record with a time of 16:24.05 to claim second place for the Terriers in the 1650 freestyle while classmate Kaitlin Law (17:13.11) placed 10th.
Junior Connor Stuewe boasted the top performance for the BU men by breaking his own school record while also setting a new Patriot League and meet record with a time of 1:43.40 to capture first in the 200 backstroke. Senior Nik Astashinsky posted a fifth place finish (1:48.99) in the race while classmate Wesley Pate took 12th (1:50.80).
Sophomore Mun Hon Lee also set a school record for BU with a time of 1:47.02 to claim third place in the 200 butterfly. Classmate Tanner Cridland added points with a 10th place showing (1:51.35) while junior Alec Pokornowski clocked in at 1:53.25 for 13th.
In the other women's events, senior Kendra Cheng paced BU in the 200 backstroke finals with an 11th place finish (2:02.51) while junior Alexsa Savaged placed fifth in the 100 freestyle (51.12). Sophomore Karla Ferrara placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.68) and classmate Celia Simpson followed that up with a third-place showing in the 200 butterfly (2:00.36). Junior Avery Visser clocked in seventh (2:04.23) while sophomore Mika Spencer placed 11th (2:05.32).
On the men's side, freshman Austin Dickey paced BU in the 200 breaststroke with a third place finish in 2:00.58 while junior Mario Caballero (2:02.84) and senior Jeff Thomas (2:03.42) also collected points for the Terriers by finishing 13th and 14th.
Junior Alec Pokornowski was the top finisher for the Terriers in the 1650 freestyle by clocking in at 15:49.21 to take seventh place while senior Knox Anderson finished in 16:11.05 to claim 15th.
The BU women placed third in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, as Savage and Spencer combined with freshmen Christy Wilde and Lauren Dixon to clock in at 3:25.35.
The men concluded the meet with a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Vazquez, Puchi, Stuewe and Kupke posted a time of 2:58.82.
