BOSTON – Boston University head golf coach Bruce Chalas has announced the team’s 2014-15 schedule. The Terriers will play four fall tournaments and five spring events, including the 2015 Patriot League Championship.
Seven of the nine events will be 54 holes, including the third annual Patriot League Championship hosted by Navy on April 18-19. History will be made that weekend, as for the first time the winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
BU begins its season at the 36-hole Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 13-14. The Terriers finished second there last year, paced by a program-record round of 298. They will stay in New England with a trip to New Haven, Conn., to compete at the Yale Fall Classic (Sept. 26-28).
The Diane Tommason Invitational at the University of Iowa (Oct. 4-5) will be the first of four new tournaments on the Terriers’ schedule in 2014-15. It will be the first time BU has played in an event hosted by a Big 10 school. The fall schedule concludes on Oct. 13-14 when the Terriers tee off for the first time in the Courtyard Classic hosted by Jacksonville University.
As it did last season, the spring slate begins at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate (March 1-3). The Terriers will then head to a pair of new destinations; first to the University of North Florida Intercollegiate (March 9-10) before playing in the C+F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary (March 30-31). The lone 36-hole spring event will be the Battle at the Bay, hosted by Brown on April 12-13.
“We’re excited to play a competitive slate of tournaments in 2014-15,” Chalas said. “Sixty percent of the teams we will face this season are top-100 squads, and the inclusion of several 54-hole events will better prepare our group for the Patriot League Championship in April. In addition, the chance to now compete for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament is great for both our team and the conference as a whole.”
If the Terriers earn the conference’s first-ever automatic bid, the NCAA regionals will take place May 7-9.
