SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Following its official practice round on Wednesday, the Boston University golf team will play in its first-ever NCAA Regional on Thursday morning when the Terriers begin the 54-hole tournament held at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
BU qualified for the NCAA Regional round thanks to its first-ever Patriot League title. The Terriers are one of 18 teams that will tee off in San Antonio, with the top six squads advancing to the NCAA Championship. In addition, the three low-scoring individuals not on an advancing team will also qualify for the championship weekend held in Bradenton, Florida.
The Terriers will be led by Patriot League individual champion Adela Cejnarova, who has won each of her last two tournaments. A two-time Patriot League Golfer of the Month, Cejnarova has carded eight straight rounds in the 70s. The sophomore was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team last week.
Senior Kristyna Pavlickova will look to extend her outstanding collegiate career this weekend. She played perhaps the best nine-hole stretch of golf in her career in the final round of the conference championship and has won four tournaments as a Terrier. She tied for 15th at the Patriot League Championship.
Junior Emily Tillo, the first-ever athlete to repeat as Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year, leads the Terriers with an average of 76.2 in 14 spring rounds. She has been consistent of late, having recorded seven straight rounds in the 70s. Runner-up at the Patriot League Championship, Tillo was the Patriot League Golfer of the Month in March and 12 of her 14 spring rounds have been below 80.
Freshman Phyllis Tang was the league's Most Oustanding Rookie after she finished fifth at the Patriot League Championship. Tang tied Cejnarova for a tournament-record low round of 72 that weekend and Tang was an All-Patriot League First-Team selection. Four of her last five rounds have been below 80.
Junior Sarah Easton entered the Terrier lineup at the Brown Bear Invitational and has helped BU record two top-three finishes to close out April. Easton posted a top-25 finish at the Patriot League Championship as part of the Terriers' victory.
