2015-16 Schedule: HTML | PDF
BOSTON - Highlighted by four home games against 2015 NCAA tournament participants and a visit to eight-time national champion Kentucky, the Boston University men's basketball team and fifth-year head coach Joe Jones have released the 2015-16 schedule. In total, the Terriers will play 31 regular season games with 14 taking place on campus at Case Gymnasium.
Season tickets for men's basketball will be $99 for the general public with special pricing for faculty/staff ($78) and young alumni ($52). Last year's season ticket holders can renew by logging into their account on AgganisArena.com and fans can purchase new season tickets by visiting AgganisArena.com. For more information, fans can visit the ticket office at 925 Commonwealth Avenue on Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. or call 617-353-GOBU (4628).
Before kicking off their 107th season, the Terriers will host a pre-season tip-off event, which will be free to the public, in conjunction with the women's basketball team on Thursday, Nov. 5. Check back on GoTerriers.com for more details to come.
Returning every letterman for the second time in three years, BU will be challenged at the start with the first five scheduled opponents averaging 23 wins last season. The Terriers will participate in 23 contests against opponents that claimed 14 or more wins and nine games against 2015 postseason participants.
"The coaching staff and I are excited about the schedule we've put together this year," said Jones. "To be an elite program, we have to play the best, and our guys will be hosting three NCAA teams in November while also returning to Rupp Arena. Our non-conference games will give us the opportunity to be battle tested prior to starting league play."
For the sixth consecutive year, BU opens its season with crosstown rival Northeastern on Friday, Nov. 13 at The Roof in one of the nation's most entertaining rivalries. The Terriers hold a 72-70 edge against the defending CAA champions in the all-time series dating back to 1920. Over the last six years, each game between the two schools has either been decided by fewer than four points in regulation or required overtime for a victor to emerge.
Before kicking off a five-game road trip, the Terriers will host a second former conference foe in Albany on Nov. 16. Northeastern left the America East after the 2005 season, and BU followed suit in the summer of 2013 to join the Patriot League. The Great Danes took advantage of the Terriers' 2013 AE tournament ban to win the first of three straight titles and will try to snap a nine-game losing streak in the series.
The home matchup represents the first game of the 2015 Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, which will continue at NJIT (Nov. 19), South Florida (Nov. 21) and Kentucky (Nov. 24). Highlighted by a road win at Michigan, the Highlanders earned 21 victories en route to the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, while the Wildcats had an unblemished record undone by Wisconsin in the Final Four.
The Rupp Arena visit marks the third in six years for the Terriers, who will also be visiting USF for the first time since winning the Bulls' 1996 holiday tournament. After completing the Hall of Fame Classic, BU will make a return trip to another former America East foe, Binghamton (Nov. 28), and then travel to Amherst to face off against UMass (Dec. 2).
The Minutemen posted an RPI ranking of 83 and just missed out on an NIT berth with a record of 17-15 as a member of the Atlantic 10. They last faced the Terriers at the Mullins Center in 2010 and will mark the first of three straight in-state opponents.
BU next hosts defending Ivy League champion Harvard on Dec. 8 at The Roof for the first time since taking the Crimson to overtime in 2013 and then travels to UMass Lowell (Dec. 10), Quinnipiac (Dec. 13) and Canisius (Dec. 19). The Terriers host their longest running opponent New Hampshire on Dec. 21 in a series that dates back to 1902.
After a week-long holiday break, Kean and head coach Rob Kurzinsky, who served as Jones' director of operations at Columbia, visit The Roof on Dec. 28 in the final non-conference tune-up for both squads.
The Terriers last winter extended their streak of finishing .500 or better in conference play to 15 seasons, the 11th-best mark in the nation. The quest to keep the streak alive begins at Holy Cross on Dec. 30 in the first of two scheduled Turnpike Trophy contests. The in-state rivals announced the all-sports competition back in August with each regular season and postseason win contributing points to the school's total.
After visiting the Crusaders, BU opens 2016 at Lehigh (Jan. 2). The Terriers then host Navy (Jan. 6) and defending tournament champion Lafayette (Jan. 9). The Leopards avenged their 2014 quarterfinal elimination by defeating BU in the 2015 quarters en route to the league title.
The following six games will swap between home and away, starting at American on Jan. 13. Last season, BU swept the Eagles for the first time since joining the PL. The Terriers will host Loyola Maryland (Jan. 16) and Bucknell (Jan. 23) with a trip to Colgate (Jan. 20) taking place in-between the two home matchups.
After ending the month of January by visiting Army West Point (Jan. 27) and hosting Lehigh (Jan. 30), BU will travel to Navy (Feb. 3) and Lafayette (Feb. 6). Four of the final six games occur in Case Gym with the last two road games taking place at Loyola Maryland (Feb. 13) and Bucknell (Feb. 21).
BU ends the home slate against American (Feb. 10), Colgate (Feb. 17), Army (Feb. 24) and Holy Cross (Feb. 27). Prior to hosting the Crusaders, the Terriers will honor seniors Justin Alston, Nathan Dieudonne and John Papale. The three men have helped the program earn two postseason berths (2014 NIT and 2013 CIT) in three seasons and will join the other nine conference opponents in search of their third starting on March 1.
The top six seeds receive a first-round bye with the quarterfinals taking place on March 3. The semifinals follow on March 6, and the two remaining squads will clash for the automatic NCAA bid on March 9.
Junior Cedric Hankerson (15.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg) is the top returner after being the lone 2015 Patriot League All-Conference member to earn a ranking for scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. Classmate Eric Fanning in his first season on the court with the Terriers was the second in double figures at 12.3 ppg. Dieudonne (9.7 ppg) ranked second in the PL in rebounding at 7.4 rpg, and Papale (9.2 ppg, 3.4 apg) moved into fifth-place all-time at BU with 192 career 3-pointers. Sophomore Cheddi Mosely (8.6 ppg) will also look to make noise after becoming the fourth Terrier in the last three years under Jones to receive All-Rookie Team accolades.
