October 17, 2016 | Women's Golf, Student-Athlete Academic Support Service
INDIANAPOLIS - Former Boston University golf standout Emily Tillo was honored as a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award at a banquet held on Sunday night.
Tillo was the first student-athlete in BU history to be named one of the top 30 honorees for this prestigious award. Ten women from each of the three NCAA divisions were selected from a pool of 142 conference nominees. Tillo was the Patriot League Woman of the Year, the second Terrier in as many years to earn that distinction.
A three-time Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Tillo distinguished herself in the four pillars of the Woman of the Year Award – academics, athletics, service and leadership. A recipient of the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award, Tillo served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and represented her team for three years in the BU Athletics Leadership Academy. She also initiated the "It's on Us" campaign to end sexual assault at BU.
In the classroom, Tillo earned a 3.94 grade-point average and graduated summa cum laude from the Questrom School of Business in May. She also minored in journalism in the College of Communication.
On the course, Tillo averaged a 78.0 and carded a program-low 68 at the Battle at Boulder Creek. That four-under round helped her finish fourth at the event. She also tied for 16th at the Patriot League Championship to help the Terriers secure second. Tillo averaged a score of 78.14 in 95 collegiate rounds during an excellent career at BU.
Tillo currently works for the PGA TOUR at its headquarters in Florida.
