BOSTON - The Boston University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Annapolis, Md. to compete in the Patriot League Championship meet, hosted by Navy, in Lejeune Hall. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 17 and will run through Saturday, Feb. 20. The meet will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
Both teams look to outdo their preseason projections and win their first-ever Patriot League Championships. The Terriers were picked to finish third in the conference in both the men's and women's polls after finishing in third place overall at the PL Championship meet last season.
The BU women have captured seven America East Conference championships including three in the last seven years (2009, 2010, 2012) while the men have won two AE titles, most recently in 2012. The men look to dethrone Navy, who has won 12-straight Patriot League Championships. The Terriers also hope to put a stop to Navy's reign on the women's side, as the Midshipmen have won the last four titles and five in the past six years.
The Terriers return six All-Patriot League team members to the championship meet this season including 2015 Female Diver of the Meet and 3-meter champion Lizzie Tillo.
The BU men's team point leader from last season, Mun Hon Lee, looks to capture his first-ever Patriot League Individual Championship. Last season, Lee finished in third place in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 200 IM.
Also returning to the meet this season for the men are first-team members Quinn Smith and Garrett Chin, who both set school records at the Patriot League Championship last season. Smith finished in second place in the 200 IM to set a new BU standard while Chin had a fifth place finish in the 400 IM after setting the school record in the preliminary swim.
In addition to Tillo, Steph Nasson, a first-team All-PL member, returns for the women this season. Nasson is one of the most decorated Terriers in the meet this season, having won three individual titles throughout her career thus far. She was named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Meet as sophomore and became the first female BU swimmer to qualify for the NCAA championship meet since 1988 with her winning 1650 freestyle performance.
