Golf Set to Open Spring Season Sunday
February 27, 2016 | Women's Golf
The Boston University golf team will begin its 2016 spring season on Sunday in the first round of the 54-hole Kiawah Island Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.
BU is one of 41 teams to play at Kiawah Island this weekend in the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country. It will be the first of four tournaments for the Terriers before they defend their Patriot League championship at Bucknell on April 23 and 24.
The Terriers last competed at Kiawah Island in October when they completed their fall schedule. Freshman Megan Carter carded three rounds in the 70s during that tournament.
"We just opened our new indoor facility two weeks ago and I think our team is going to get off to a fast start this week," head coach Bruce Chalas said.
The new practice facility includes an indoor simulator and a new putting surface, all of which is designed to help the Terriers get better even when conditions prevent the chance to practice outside.
"With the new practice facilities we have everything we need to be able to compete with the best teams," junior co-captain Adela Cejnarova said. "Now it's our time to show we can do it."
"We have worked extremely hard during the offseason, both in the gym and in the new indoor practice facility," senior co-captain Emily Tillo said. "We’re ready to compete and play our best golf this spring as we look to defend our Patriot League title and compete at the NCAA tournament.”
