CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Boston University women's golf team 2016 graduate Emily Tillo received the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Patriot League Sportsmanship Awards are in their 11th year after being created to honor student-athletes that uphold the principles on which the League was founded - fairness, equality and excellence in academics and athletics.
The award caps a remarkable career for Tillo both on and off the golf course. In May, Tillo was chosen as the 2016 Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year to become the first-ever three-time recipient of the award and was later named Boston University's Women of the Year.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Tillo served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and also represented her team for three years in the BU Athletics Leadership Academy and initiated the "It's on Us" campaign to end sexual assault at BU.
Tillo graduated with a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average in business administration & management from the Questrom School of Business and also minored in journalism at the College of Communication.
On the course, Tillo averaged a 78.0 and carded a program-low 68 at the Battle at Boulder Creek. That four-under round helped her finish fourth at the event. She also tied for 16th at the Patriot League Championship to help the Terriers secure second. Tillo averaged a 78.14 in 95 collegiate rounds during an excellent career at BU.
As the 2016 recipient of the PL Sportsmanship Award, Tillo will now be nominated as the Patriot League's selection for the NCAA Bob Frederick Sportsmanship Award.
