John Holland ('11) to Participate in Cleveland Cavs' Training Camp
September 12, 2016 | Men's Basketball
After competing with the Boston Celtics during their NBA postseason run this past spring, Boston University men's basketball alum John Holland ('11) has signed a training camp deal with the reigning champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavs are familiar with Holland, as he was a key contributor for their NBA Developmental-League affiliate, the Canton Charge, this past year. During his time in the NBDL, Holland started 30 games and averaged 16.0 ppg while shooting an impressive 52.0 percent from the field and 36.9 percent in 3-point territory while also averaging 3.1 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.2 spg.
In the opening round of the NBDL playoffs, Holland stepped up and tallied a combined 57 points on 62 percent shooting to help Canton sweep Maine. His ability to score against the Red Claws caught the attention of Maine's parent club, the Boston Celtics, who quickly signed Holland to provide depth on the roster prior to the start of the NBA playoffs.

A 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard/forward combo player from Bronx, N.Y., Holland finished his collegiate career as just the second in America East history alongside NBA star Reggie Lewis to have at least 2,000 points, 700 rebounds and 200 steals.
Since graduation, he had spent the last five years making a name for himself in the top professional leagues in Turkey, France and Spain while participating in multiple NBA Summer Leagues with the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves. He also competed with the Puerto Rico National Team at the FIBA World Championships and Americas Championships.
