NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – After celebrating Thanksgiving away from home, the Boston University men's basketball team will continue the six-game road trip by visiting Big Ten member Rutgers on Friday with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers opened the road trip with a 72-61 win at Albany but then fell at Eastern Michigan (80-62) and Drexel (86-67) over the past five days.
- In Wednesday's loss against the Dragons, junior Max Mahoney became the first Terrier to reach 20 points this season with his seventh career 20+ performance ... He went 9-of-10 from the field and now leads the team at 68.0 FG% and 15.8 ppg.
- Junior Tyler Scanlon is second on the team at 12.8 ppg with sophomore Javante McCoy (12.3 ppg) close behind ... Scanlon leads the team in both rebounds (6.0 rpg) and assists (4.2 apg) and is just 0.2 behind freshman Garrett Pascoe's team-leading 1.2 spg.
- McCoy is averaging 2.0 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 50.0 3FG% ... Classmate Sukhmail Mathon (4.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg) owns a team-high five blocks so far.
- BU has 12 men averaging at least 10.0 minutes per appearance, but that list does not include 2018 Patriot League All-Rookie honoree Walter Whyte, who continues to remain out due to injury.
- The Terriers are shooting an impressive 48.8 percent from the field while holding opponents to 43.7 FG%, but other teams are averaging six more made free throws per contest to help make up the difference.
- The Scarlet Knights have played all four games at home with double-digit wins over Drexel (95-66), Eastern Michigan (63-36) and Fairleigh Dickinson (90-55) with an 84-65 loss to St. John's.
- Rutgers held EMU to just four first-half points on Monday, two days after the Eagles dispatched the Terriers, 80-62.
- 6-foot-7 forward Eugene Omoruyi is nearly averaging a double-double at 14.8 ppg and 8.0 rpg, while 6-foot-4 guard Geo Baker leads the Scarlet Knights at 5.8 apg with 14.3 ppg.
- 6-foot-5 guard Peter Kiss and 6-foot-10 wingman Issa Thiam are averaging an identical 11.3 ppg.
- Rutgers is shooting 46.2 percent from the field with the help of 10.8 made 3-pointers per game while holding opponents to 38.6 FG%.
- The Scarlet Knights are also averaging an identical 6.8 blocks and 6.8 steals per game.
- Rutgers leads the all-time series, 13-5, after pulling out an 81-79 win in 2012 ... Current BU director of operations John Papale ('16) hit four 3-pointers in the contest.
- Teams met 17 times from 1941-1972 with the Scarlet Knights winning 12 of the contests, including the last seven ... BU last claimed a 62-61 win on Dec. 4, 1964 at home.
- BU is quite familiar with Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell, eliminating both him and Stony Brook in the 2010 America East semifinals and 2011 AE title game ... Pikiell won the last three regular season meetings, including a sweep in 2012-13.
