BOSTON – Looking for its first sweep of the conference schedule, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit Holy Cross on Monday night with the CBS Sports Network broadcast set to begin at 7 p.m.
Both teams have a quick turnaround, as they both played on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (11-16, 4-10 PL) cut a 19-point deficit to two against Patriot League preseason favorite Lehigh and missed a go-ahead 3-point attempt in the final 10 seconds for an 84-79 loss, while the Crusaders (14-13, 5-9 PL) became just the third team alongside BU and American to defeat two-time defending PL champion Bucknell, 72-71, this year with the help of 28 points off turnovers.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- After totaling a game-high 19 points on Saturday, junior Tyler Scanlon (14.0 ppg) has reached double figures in each of the last nine games for an average of 17.2 ppg.
- Scanlon is now just 51 points away from the 1,000-point milestone, while fellow classmate Max Mahoney (16.5 ppg) is just 67 points away ... Besides being the team's top two leading scorers, the men are also leading BU's rebounding efforts at a combined 11.4 rpg.
- The Terriers are averaging 6.7 made 3-pointers per game after hitting a season-tying 12 treys against Lehigh on Saturday ... Sophomore Andrew Petcash (4.6 ppg) and freshman Jonas Harper (4.5 ppg) drained three apiece in the contest and are now a combined 50-of-114 (.439) from behind the arc.
- Redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino (6.7 ppg) joined all four previously mentioned Terriers in reaching double figures against Lehigh with 12 points ... The Terriers last five men hit the mark in the 2017 Patriot League semifinals.
- BU is 6-9 on the road this year and has dropped the last two contests to Bucknell (82-76) and Army (71-61) following a 76-68 win at Colgate.
- The Terriers are averaging 72.0 ppg and 47.0 FG% while holding opponents to 72.5 ppg and 46.7 FG%.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Crusaders are 8-3 at home compared to their 6-10 mark away from the Hart Center with notable wins over the Bison, Siena and Canisius ... The three losses occurred against Rhode Island, Colgate and Loyola Maryland.
- 6-foot-6 forward Jacob Grandison is averaging a team-high 14.0 ppg with 6-foot-5 forward Austin Butler close behind at 13.0 ppg ... 6-foot-8 center Jehyve Floyd is shooting a stellar 66.3 percent from the field while averaging 11.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.6 apg and 2.2 bpg.
- The Crusaders have one of the worst rebounding margins in the country at -8.2 rpg but make up for the large deficit by ranking in the top 40 nationally in turnovers allowed per game (10.8) and in turnover margin (4.0) ... They also rank in the top 15 in fewest fouls committed per game (14.9).
- HC is averaging 67.2 ppg and 46.1 FG% while holding opponents to 68.1 ppg and 44.8 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
- In a series dating back to 1902-03, the Crusaders own a 53-21 advantage against the Terriers ... BU though is 8-3 since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
- In the last meeting at Case Gym on Jan. 30, BU led 30-26 at the half and opened the second on a 7-0 run ... They never saw their lead cut below 10 points ... Scanlon was named Turnpike Trophy MVP for the second time with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals ... BU shot 51.9 FG% and held HC to 37.3 FG% ... The Terriers also posted a 42-18 advantage in rebounds to overcome 19 turnovers.
