Patriot League Announces Men's and Women's Basketball Schedules
November 9, 2020 | General
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Both the Boston University men's and women's basketball teams will open their respective 16-game regular season schedules on Jan. 2, 2021, as announced by the Patriot League Monday morning.
To reduce travel and overnight stays, all 10 PL members will be divided into three regional mini-conferences with teams playing four games against each regional opponent. Additional games will be played outside of the mini-conferences to complete the schedule.
Schools will play against the same opponent on consecutive days, primarily Saturdays and Sundays, with a limited number of exceptions. The Terriers are set to play Army West Point and Colgate four times apiece and Holy Cross six times. BU will also play two games out of group against Lafayette.
Last winter, both Terrier basketball teams posted identical 12-6 conference records with the men triumphing over Colgate in the PL title game on March 11. The No. 2-seeded women were set to host Lehigh in the semifinals a day later when their tournament was canceled.
Led by 10th-year head coach Joe Jones, the defending PL champion men return four starters, including 2020 All-Conference honorees Walter Whyte (13.0 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Javante McCoy (12.2 ppg, 3.5 apg). Both junior Jonas Harper (All-Defensive) and sophomore Ethan Brittain-Watts (All-Rookie) received conference recognition as well.
The women enter their third season under head coach Marisa Moseley with all five starters back, including two-time All-Conference selection Katie Nelson (12.4 ppg, 3.6 apg, 3.3 rpg) and 2020 PL Rookie of the Year Maggie Pina (11.5 ppg, 70 3FGs). Maren Durant and Sydney Johnson joined Pina on the All-Rookie Team, marking the first time in league history three individuals from one program were recognized.
While spectators will not be permitted at home games, fans will be able to watch all PL games on ESPN+ and listen to audio streams on TSRN. Times will be announced at a later date.
The PL Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will include eight teams. The men's quarterfinal round is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, while the women begin quarterfinal-round play on Sunday, March 7. The men's semifinal round will be played on Wednesday, March 10, followed by the women's semifinals on Thursday, March 11. The PL men's and women's basketball title games are both scheduled to be played on Sunday, March 14. Tournament seeding policies are in the process of being developed and will be announced at a later date.
