Terriers to Host Bucknell in PL Semifinal Clash Sunday at Noon

BOSTON – Seeking its first three-game sweep in six years, the No. 3-seeded Boston University men's basketball team will host No. 7 Bucknell in the Patriot League semifinals on Sunday with the CBS Sports Network broadcast slated to begin at 12 p.m.

The Terriers overcame an early 12-point deficit on Thursday to eliminate No. 6 Navy, 69-63, and reach their third semifinal in four years. The Bison opened the PL tournament with a 65-62 home win over No. 10 Holy Cross in the first round and then claimed a 64-59 victory at No. 2 American in the quarterfinals.

TERRIER TIDBITS

Sophomore Walter Whyte earned his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Navy ... He is second on the team at 12.9 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
First on the team in points (15.4 ppg) and rebounds (8.2 rpg), senior Max Mahoney has posted four straight double-doubles against Bucknell ... Following his nine-point, eight-rebound performance against Navy, he is 10 rebounds away from becoming the fourth Terrier to reach 1,500 career points and 700 rebounds.
Junior Javante McCoy is third on the team at 12.2 ppg after posting 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half against Navy.
Both Whyte and sophomore Jonas Harper (7.2 ppg) flushed three 3-pointers apiece ... They have combined for 105 treys this season.
The Terriers are averaging 71.3 ppg and 45.9 FG% while holding opponents to 67.1 ppg and 43.8 FG%.
BU is currently 49-33 (.598) all-time in conference tournaments with a 16-8 (.667) semifinal record.
The Terriers reached their last title game in 2014 after claiming three-game sweeps against Lafayette and Army.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL

The Bison have reached the last three PL tournament finals, winning in 2017 and 2018.
Bucknell went 8-10 in conference play but is 5-2 over the last seven games with wins against top-seed Colgate and No. 2 American (2x).
Four of Bucknell's starters are averaging double figures with 6-foot-3 guard Jimmy Sotos averaging 11.5 ppg, 3.9 apg and 3.6 rpg.
6-foot-6 forward John Meeks is averaging 11.4 ppg with 5.4 rpg, while 6-foot-9 center Paul Newman is averaging 5.0 ppg with 4.6 rpg.
Bucknell is averaging 67.8 ppg and 42.0 FG% while holding opponents to 71.2 ppg and 46.1 FG%.

SERIES HISTORY

Bucknell owns a 13-7 advantage in the all-time series, but BU has won four of the last seven games, including three of the last four.
BU won the first two meetings against Bucknell with a 77-57 road win on Feb. 1 and then a 74-71 come-from-behind victory at home on Feb. 29 in which the Terriers faced a 15-point deficit with under eight to play.
The two teams will meet in the postseason for the first time since the Bison posted a 90-59 home win in the 2018 semifinals.
