BOSTON – The Boston University Department of Athletics surpassed $1 million in gifts for the fifth consecutive BU Giving Day as over $1.25 million was raised in support of Terrier student-athletes on Wednesday, April 6.
Athletics Giving Day Chair Timothy Burr (MET'97) and Vice-Chair, Bill Kamer (LAW'78), led this year's efforts, which resulted in over 2,900 gifts and impressive participation from alumni-athletes, parents and friends of each team. The competition included 236 contributions of $1,000 or more, with 30 being $10,000+ donations.
"Our department is incredibly thankful for the support from all groups – alumni, parents, students, our fanbase
and friends – that was on display once again for Giving Day," said director of athleticsÂ
Drew Marrochello. "Taking a look through the names on the donor lists is always gratifying, as each and every one represents a proud connection to BU. Thank you to director of athletics development Kyle Shawgo and our coaches and staff for their efforts in making this event a huge success once again. Our sincere appreciation goes out to all of you who contributed to your favorite Terrier programs."
Â
In total, over $7.5 million has now been raised in support of Terrier student-athletes as part of the Giving Day movement. This year's final tally of $1,267,159 represented 40 percent of the $3.1 million raised in total across campus.Â
"Last Wednesday the Boston University Athletics community once again showed its dedication and commitment to the student-athletes, coaches and all who make the department such a source of pride for the university," said Burr. "To once again exceed $1 million and have nearly 3,000 gifts made speaks volumes to the belief in Boston University Athletics and a commitment to making the experience of BU student-athletes world-class. Thank you to all who participated this year."Â
Team revenue head-to-head challenges took place with each varsity program matched up against another. Women's lacrosse, men's ice hockey, men's tennis, men's lacrosse, track & field, women's soccer, women's tennis, women's golf and women's basketball were all victorious in their head-to-head match-ups to earn an additional $2,000 each.Â
