Men Take First Place at Terrier Invite; Falkstrom Crushes 200 Breast Records
November 19, 2023 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Falkstrom had his sights set on the 200-yard breaststroke record and delivered in the morning prelims, swimming a 1:57.14 to top his school record and take down a 15-year pool record in the process. Then in the finals, Falkstrom turned in arguably the best swim of his career, touching the wall in 1:55.89, shaving 1.25 seconds off his prelim time and secure an NCAA 'B' cut.
The Terriers totaled 1774 points during the three-day meet to outdistance second-place Massachusetts, finished with 1579.5. Fairfield was third with 1212.5 and Bryant, which only competed in diving, had 105.
Junior Dolan Grisbaum started off the night by winning the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 15:45.64 before the Terriers dominated the 200-yard backstroke, waking five of the top six spots. Sophomore Tony Ponomarev had a winning time of 1:47.33 while freshman Jonny Farber was right behind in second, turning in a personal best of 1:47.85.
Senior Justin Lee was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.91 and junior Andy Carlson had a personal-best time of 2:02.17 in his second-place finish behind Falkstrom in the 200 breast. Freshman Jonathan Tsang took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.09.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay and the team of Falkstrom, Lee, junior Pier Bressan and Farber took first, finishing in 3:00.75.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 2, when they visit Holy Cross for a Patriot League dual starting at noon.
